Venture Voir Brings Outside Capital to New Orleans Founders of Color; Louisiana Ranked No. 9 for Business
Byron Jupiter — October 11, 2026
NEW ORLEANS — GNO, Inc.’s Startup Noir NOLA initiative hosted its second Venture Voir this week, an in-person experience that introduces out-of-state venture capital funds, angel groups, and community development financial institutions to the region’s diverse startups, according to an update from GNO, Inc. President and CEO Michael Hecht.
Investors in major markets don’t historically source deals in the Gulf South, Hecht wrote, so Venture Voir brings them here to meet founders of color directly.
The tour
This year’s Venture Voir included panels at Newlab New Orleans and the Shop Workspace, a visit to NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility, and a closing dinner where investors sat down with local founders raising capital, according to Hecht. Key local partners included Idea Village and Corridor Ventures.
In two years, Hecht said, Venture Voir has introduced more than 20 out-of-state funds to local startups. The startups he named: Munivestor, Bea’s Bayou Skincare, Dreamland Koffucha, Codegig, Zenistry Labs, Zokoyo Potty Pal, Kinkz Hair Products, and MilestoneMate.
Venture Voir also brought Kiva, a crowdfunding platform for small business loans, into the Greater New Orleans market, Hecht wrote. Unlike equity investment, Kiva contributions are loans, not donations, and lenders are repaid as borrowers make payments.
Louisiana at No. 9
Separately this week, Area Development released its 2026 Top States for Doing Business. Based on a survey of 50 site consultants, the rankings placed Louisiana at No. 9 overall in the nation, Hecht reported:
- No. 2 for energy costs
- No. 4 for energy availability; grid capacity; and workforce training programs
- No. 7 for labor cost competitiveness; water and wastewater capacity; regulatory environment; and property tax environment
- No. 8 for business incentives programs
- No. 9 for overall speed to market
After falling out of the Top Ten, Louisiana has been back at the top of the rankings for the past two years, according to the report as relayed by Hecht.
Our position: studying the language, teaching it to our creatives
This is not an announcement of a partnership. It is an announcement that we are studying one.
Before we align with any program, we learn its language first — its terms, its definitions, what it means when it says “partner,” “equity,” “moving on/up.” Then we decide. That is how we have always done business, and it is how we are handling this one.
And here is what the studying taught us: it’s not just us. Our creatives have to learn it now — because we have to. The room where money moves speaks a language most creatives were never taught. Equity. Debt. CDFI. Angel groups. Site selection. Incentives. That was never our people’s failing — nobody translated it for us. The translation starts now.
The learning agenda:
1. First words, in plain language. Equity versus loan — it decides who owns what when the money comes back. What a CDFI is. What “raising capital” means. What Kiva asks of a borrower. We’ll file the definitions on repeatable.press as we learn them: a living dictionary, understanding made repeatable.
2. The record stays the foundation. Registration, splits, paperwork — your books in order. The language doesn’t replace the record; it rides on it. The people who get seen are the people whose books are in order. That’s not a promise of funding. That’s the rule of the room.
3. Learning a language is not joining a program. No promises, no affiliations. We’ll say “aligned” only when the terms are stated early and written down.
Knowledge is power. Filed knowledge is repeatable power. We’re filing it.
