This report covers Sunday, October 18, 2026 (Central time). Google Trends data was checked at 6:44am Central on Monday, October 19, 2026. Product pages were tried at 6:43am Central the same morning.

At a glance

  • No. 1 search: Cowboys vs Packers, 2M+ US searches on Sunday Night Football day (Google Trends).
  • Most useful word: incumbent, the person already holding the job or seat. Three weeks from the midterms, you will hear it daily.
  • No. 1 product: not available today. Amazon Best Sellers blocked our reader this morning, so we have no No. 1 to report and we are not guessing one.

Most Useful Word of the Day: incumbent

incumbent (noun and adjective) · in-KUM-bunt · Merriam-Webster entry

What it means, plainly: As a noun, the incumbent is whoever holds a position right now, such as the official on the ballot who already has the seat. As an adjective it means currently holding that post (the incumbent mayor). In the phrase “incumbent on” or “incumbent upon,” it means a duty that falls on someone.

Where it comes from: Latin incumbere, to lie or lean on, which reached English through Anglo-French in the 1400s. The duty sits on you; the office rests with you.

Example: The challenger out-raised the incumbent in September, so it is incumbent on the campaign to show where that money is going before Election Day.

Why it is the most useful word today: Merriam-Webster says lookups for the word rose ahead of next month’s elections (Words of the Week, Oct. 16), and “how to vote in the US midterms” was also trending on Google this weekend. You will meet it in election coverage, in job postings (“the incumbent will report to…”), and in contracts and leases that spell out whose duty something is.

We kept trends that began on Oct. 18 or were driven by an Oct. 18 event, and left out Saturday college games. Volumes are Google’s ranges. Scores are from NFL.com’s Week 6 recap.

Top words — Merriam-Webster

Merriam-Webster does not publish a daily Sunday list. Its most recent trending report is Words of the Week, Oct. 16, 2026, which names four lookup spikes. We list those four rather than invent a fifth; its fifth entry, vampire, is a featured word, not a spike. Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Day for Oct. 18 was bon vivant.

  1. Indigenous — lookups rise every year around Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which fell on Monday, Oct. 12 (Merriam-Webster).
  2. Incumbent — up as the November elections near (Merriam-Webster).
  3. Ambassador — up after reports about Kimberly Guilfoyle, the US ambassador to Greece (Merriam-Webster).
  4. Harvest — seasonal interest, with Wisconsin’s soybean harvest running behind (Merriam-Webster).
  5. Vampire — featured as a seasonal “word worth knowing,” not a lookup spike (Merriam-Webster).

Top products

Amazon Best Sellers — overall

Not available. Amazon Best Sellers blocked automated reading when we checked at 6:43am Central, Oct. 19. We are not filling the list from memory or from third-party copies.

Music gear and studio products

Not available. Amazon’s Musical Instruments best-seller list sits behind the same block. Sweetwater‘s best-seller page did not load for us, and its homepage shows only new releases and deals, which are not sales rankings. No list today.

Google Shopping trends

Google Trends filters its Shopping category in the browser, and our capture held only four Shopping-tagged searches that began Oct. 18. Here they are in Google’s order. That is fewer than ten, and these are search topics, not products (Google Trends, Shopping, US).

  1. Kylie Jenner (200K+) — tied to her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show appearance (The Zoe Report).
  2. Captain Marvel (10K+) — we could not confirm what drove this one.
  3. Elsa Hosk (5K+) — we could not confirm what drove this one.
  4. Black Friday 2026 (1K+) — people checking the date, which is Nov. 27 this year (SoFi).

What it says

Sunday belonged to the NFL. All ten of the top searches were Week 6 games, and the biggest was the one most people watched live at night. Off the field, the fashion show did the rest. The word that ties the weekend together is incumbent. The same week people were looking up how to vote, they were looking up the word for the person already in the seat. With no reliable product rankings this morning, the clear shopping signal was early Black Friday planning. For music owners and makers there is no strong link today beyond that: holiday buying is starting to show up in searches, so plan gear deals and studio-time offers now, not in late November.
